9. What do I need to offer?

You get to determine the value of the offer to best match your business. However, we believe that getting customers in your door should be the highest priority of this campaign. Haircut, pizza, dental exam or one month at your gym.

25. I’ve read I should expect a 2% response. Is that right?

That may be standard, but we typically expect a much, much higher response. With the right offer you can expect response rates to be astounding – 15% to 20% and in some cases even more!
If your service is used by most people, such as pizza or a dry cleaner you will get a higher response than if your product only appeals to a smaller segment of the population, such as a bowling alley. And of course if you offer $5 off pizza as opposed to FREE pizza, the response will be reduced dramatically.

Here’s an example:
If you send out 100 postcards to random people with a big bold “CAR WASH” on the front, will you get 2 or 3 of them interested? Maybe…
But, let’s say you sent 100 postcards with a coupon for a FREE car wash, timed it to land on a sunny spring weekend, and you sent it only to new vehicle owners that lived within a quarter mile radius of your car wash location. That sounds better, doesn’t it?
Response is variable, yet fairly predictable.
Response is affected by so many things that there’s no way to really predict it until you consider all the variables and run mailings often enough to test it. It doesn’t have to be risky because once you understand how it works, you’ll end up with a profitable campaign every time.

26. How do I track and test effectiveness?

By tracking your leads and costs per lead you can improve on your response rate and increase your effectiveness. Some of the easiest ways to do this include different offers, or asking the customer how you heard about your business. Split tests are another great way to track your marketing to see what is working the best. Send out two or more different mailings to prospective customers with different messages and designs to see which ones achieve a better response rate. You should be split testing regularly so you can determine where’s the best “bang for your buck”.
